That's not the template talking, that's me. I'm looking at those four words that every blogger / web site designer / entrepreneur has looked at a thousand times. The first words in a blog entry - which means I have to start this. The first step of the first day. I have to explain why we're starting a (small) (side) business right now. It's time to explain why Bug Free Net is so important to us. And what Nicholson Enterprise Technology Solutions even means. Like thousands of other small startups, we are starting out very small. So many of you are family, friends and friends of friends. Even as I write this I can hear some of you asking, "Why now? Aren't your kids still in school? Don't you both still have full time jobs? Isn't Christy still recovering from surgery? Yes, yes, yep, all of the above. Life goes on. And when I'm not being Bug Free Mom, NE Technology Solutions is now responsible for the rest of my work. As a self-employed business analyst / technical writer / consultant, I am now employed by our company, which makes Bob my boss. The best explanation for the Bug Free Net part, I have to say, comes from the days when I pick up our kids from school in the "line of cars". I don't do this every day. Three days a week, we are blessed by the extended care program and various after school activities, and Bug Free Mom works a long day. But two days every week, I drive up to the block before the school, and wait in the line of 50 cars idling outside our very popular elementary school. And as I wait, I watch kids walking home. Several kids are walking home with parents, and skipping alongside grandparents and dogs and baby strollers. But not all of them. Some of them are walking with older brothers and sisters, who are maybe 10 or 11. Some of them are walking alone. And as a mom, I worry about two things. Obviously, I worry for their safety getting home. But honestly, I also wonder what they're doing when they get there. I think about all of these kids, as they're walking. What are they logging into when they get home, and for how long? Who's watching? Who knows about it? What's waiting to make an impression on their little brains? I just watch their faces and I wonder. Bob and I have heard from so many parents that they want to do something about making their home internet safer for their children. "We need to do that. We really want to do that sometime," they say. We have given out web sites. We have given out our phone number. We have offered free help. Nothing hurts like getting a call from a friend a year later sobbing, "What was that web site you were talking about again? You were so right. I should have done this six months ago. You will never guess what the kids have been seeing." So we can't wait. We may not have all the time in the world, but we have information. We will be giving it away here as much as possible, in the form of links, short videos, and any other info we come across. But if anyone needs one-on-one assistance, we have found a way to be here to help. We can't afford to give away our time. But we will be offering discounts and showing many ways to do-it-yourself so there should soon be plenty of options. Our goal is simple - we want to give what we have. It won't be perfect. But it won't be nothing.
